Days 11 t 15: Sapri to Mondragone

From May17th to May 21st, we entered the regions of Campania and Basilicata, rode both inland and along the Tyrrhenian Coast, saw ancient ruins in both Paestum and Pompeii, got a taste of vibrant Naples life, and visited Teano, a town with historical significance in Italy's history of unification.

Some of the best and worse of Naples, seen from the hop on hop off bus.

Chris enjoying same.

My Maples hotel room, with painting of Vesuvius erupting near Naples.  I think all of the rooms had the same painting!

In Teano, we posed for photos at the site where Garibaldi passed the symbolic key to souther Italy to Vittorio Emannuele II, King of Savoy and future King of Italy, back in 1861 or thereabouts.

Hopping on  train to Pompeii (some of us chose this as an alternative to cycling up the long hill out of the Amalfi coast).

These are the hill-climb avoiders, delighted with their choice.

Lani in Amalfi

These are lemons, believe it or not, found along the Amalfi coast.

Ian and Helen, after  long hot ride to the Amalfi coast.

Paestum, the site of some of the finest Greek ruins in the world.

The geographer giving us the low-down on Paestum.

Not sure where we are, but we seem happy to be there!  Notice my Giro d'Italia jersey and booties.
